Scenario 60 is the second part of the retirement scenario for the "cure" personal quest. In general we were more careful about positioning so we had more control over monster focus, and with my Tinkerer on healing duty and better equipment selection no-one needed to throw away a card to avoid damage in the whole scenario - which is something we'd had to do as early as the first turn when we played last time. In the end, we succeeded the level with no-one exhausted and snagged the treasure chest and most of the gold too. We were a lot more conservative with our lose-on-use cards, playing them far more strategically, and we had a lot fewer long rests (except for our Mindthief, who had the battle goal of finishing with three or fewer cards so he deliberately exhausted himself towards the end). We dropped the difficulty down to easy, and I'm not sure whether or not that was a good idea, since we now don't know whether we would have succeeded on normal. This time we got a much milder event going in, so we merely started with a couple of random cards discarded rather than all starting injured, and knowing what we were doing helped tremendously. We re-started the campaign yesterday, and it went much better. But that doesn't mean it's not worth it ever - you need to consider the situation, what other enemies might be coming, how long the mission seems to be based on the tiles and rooms left, what the objective is, what your allies are like, etc. And people often burn their cards not knowing how much it hurts later on, and then become hesitant to use them like that.

You always need to keep that in mind when using one in the first room. People need to be careful about burning loss cards early because they do take off a lot of rounds from your total. And some of the cards can be kind of situational - if you see an opportunity where you can Flamethrower and fill every hex with an enemy, well, that's probably not going to happen every round!Īnd sometimes the starting room is rough. Also, you actually do need to use your loss cards to get XP on the Tinkerer since IIRC they don't get much out of the normal actions at low levels.

If the group as a whole runs out of steam before the end, one supportish character with a lot of turns left might just get beaten down instead of accomplishing much. You can lose two cards and still have a similar 'life' to a scoundrel who is running only 9 cards to start. They have the most cards, so while you are losing turns of activity by losing a card early, those are rounds that most other characters might not even have and you may not be able to get thing done on your own. I'd agree that Tinker is a character where maybe you shouldn't be too shy about using loss cards early.
